I know it’s hard to imagine, but I wish that I’d been yours
I know it’s difficult to understand, but I wish that I could’ve been more
So glad I’m in your life right now, and my love for you is real
But my heart still breaks as I contemplate, what was missed for all those years.
I thank God that now I have a son! I never thought that it would be
I’d prepared my heart for a childless life, and now God’s given three!
You see, now I am a Dad, bona fide and true,
And that’s something that I wish I’d been, for much longer, for you.
I know the broken stories, heart wrenching tales of your youth
When the Dad that you longed to be there, wasn’t spending life with you.
At that my heart just falls apart, but now there’s so much more
Yes, now I am Dad, and for all those years, I wish that I’d been yours.
