A Beautiful Story.

We met in the second year of high school, 1989
I dated your best friend, and you dated mine

I thought you were beautiful, but definitely not for me
I told you, you had witches eyes, or so you say, apparently
You thought I was cute, but I was dating your best friend
So there was no way that was going to happen. But that wasn’t the end

Anyway, the years went by and high school was over
We went our separate ways and forgot about each other
I did a good job of messing up my life, while you got on with yours
I drank and smoked and Partied, wasting my time, that’s for sure

And then at the age of 19 my life suddenly changed
I gave my life to Jesus, and a Christian I became
Life went on, you had a baby girl and we met at the shops one day
And with a couple of words I managed to offend, which all but chased you away

I got married, you had another baby girl, our lives went on the same
Until March 2010 when I messaged you on Facebook, and added you as a friend
I invited you for coffee and you reluctantly agreed
You were concerned about us meeting, wondered if I was going to preach

But I shared my heart and you shared yours, we exchanged relationship stories
My marriage was Over and for you, no ‘Mr Right’, still we smiled as we talked with each other
So we sat and talked and laughed a while and things were going well
Then we talked and laughed and smiled some more, which surprised us both, I could tell

We hit it off, but you had no idea that my intentions became more than friends
You found a man and I backed off, we were apart again

But for you that didn’t work, and for me I was glad, this time I would let you know how I feel
And Over some rocks and some hills we did climb, But our relationship turned to a love that was real

And then on one night, the 16th of August 2012 was the date
We walked on the jetty, I fell on one knee, hoping I knew what you’d say
Eventually a yes did come from your lips, after the shock of it all did subside
Photos were taken and Facebook updated, but boy were we in for a ride

Planning and spending and bookings for our day, there was so much to do it was mad
But when the day came and it all went so well, for the effort made by all, we were glad
Family and friends in the Forest did unite, what a beautiful setting to wed
The only thing more amazing than the place where we stood, was my bride in her ivory dress

So though we were strangers for nearly 21 years, Now as close as two people can be
Together today. Together tomorrow. Together eternally.
